Mrs. Lennon's Celebration

Mrs. Andrea Lennon - Anne Marie Murphy Paraeducator of the Year for Mansfield Schools

Mrs. Lennon was awarded a special recognition from Drs. Barzee and Rodriguez in Meriden, CT on October 1, 2015. Mrs. Rodriguez and Mrs. Lennon were inspired by the special speeches about the role of paraeducators for all students, but specifically special needs students. Thank you, Mrs. Lennon, and all our Mansfield paraeducators for the work you do each day for our students.

Fire Prevention Day at Southeast

This past Tuesday, all Southeast students (pre-K through Grade 4) participated in meaningful activities and lessons with the Mansfield Fire Department and EMS. Take a look at some recent photos of our great day. And special thanks to our local EMS and fire fighters!!!  They were amazing with our students.

First Star Student Luncheon

Every month, a select group of 2 students per classroom will be recognized as the Star Student. As part of the K-4 recognition, student eat lunch with Mrs. Rodriguez, listen to a story, and earn a pencil and certificate.  Students photos are also taken and displayed in the foyer for approximately 1 month. We use our Eagle Expectations to help guide decisions for who is selected.  Our philosophy is that all students get recognized 1 time during the school year for the many wonderful things they do each day!

Class Meeting

Here is a photo of Mrs. Villar's class during Class Meeting yesterday.  Students created a conversation web.  This week students are practicing greeting one another and created class expectations throughout the school.  Be sure to ask your child what they are learning about, too!

Welcome Back!

I hope you have enjoyed a restful summer!  Everyone at Southeast has been awaiting your children's return - we are all excited for our first day back to school.  Our first day of school is tomorrow for our K - 4 students,  Wednesday, August 26.  Our preschool program starts on Thursday.

I hope you are able to join us for our opening ceremony beginning around 9 am tomorrow morning on the playscape.  Plan for approximately 20 minutes and be a part of our exciting march into school by lining the path with your cheers and applause around 9:25 am.

One of our new initiatives this year is our entry into Responsive Classroom.  Your children will participate in a class meeting each day for approximately 25 minutes.  During this time, they will be invited to learn pro-social skills (like greeting a friend, being kind to others, and expressing gratitude.).  Teachers will plan lessons based on the unique strengths and needs in each class.  We look forward to sharing our work with you.

It's going to be a great year! Please keep in touch with your child's teacher to ensure academic and social success.  We are all part of the team.  And, as always, feel free to contact me at any time.

Jumpathon by the Golden Eagles

It's a fantastic time of year to celebrate! Our Golden Eagles are a group of self-started "do gooders" who want to make Southeast School an awesome place. Their goal has been to promote our Eagle Expectations on the playground. They meet at lunchtime to plan their next steps. The students created a fundraiser for Gina's Friends at Windham Hospital-a jump roping event. Everyone had a blast. I'm so proud of this unique group of students.  They raised over $280 that evening!  Special thanks to our teachers, Mrs. Burnham and Mrs. Proffer, who facilitate the committee.

Horizon Wings Assembly

As a school wide celebration for a great year adhering to our new Eagle Expectations(respect, responsibility and safety) we invited the Horizon Wings Raptor Rehibilitation Team to showcase some their amazing raptors. We even had the opportunity to see a Bald Eagle (Atka) and a Golden Eagle (Chrysos).  The pride in the Eagles is breathtaking. Below is a picture of a Northern Saw-whet Owl named Sprite.  The students were mesmerized with the show. As proof of our excellent behaviors, the founding director of the program commented that we were one of greatest groups she has ever worked with! Special thanks to Mrs Irvine for organizing the program and to Mrs. Cooley for the great idea.
